The Syrian Feminist Lobby condemns the killing of civilians in Homs and its countryside and warns against continued impunity

The Syrian Feminist Lobby condemns the ongoing violations and crimes targeting civilians in Homs Governorate and its countryside, which, according to the Seen Organization for Civil Peace, have resulted in the killing of more than 60 civilians since March of this year. The latest of these crimes occurred today, when a mother was killed and her child and husband were injured in a silencer-assisted shooting. This follows the killing of another mother and her two children in recent days.

These incidents constitute serious crimes, extrajudicial killings, and grave violations of human rights. They are taking place amid the continued absence of effective measures to arrest and hold the perpetrators accountable. The recurrence of these killings and the persistent impunity enjoyed by those responsible reflect a profound disregard for the safety and lives of civilians and a serious failure to fulfill the authorities’ obligation to protect the population and ensure their security, particularly against the backdrop of escalating hate speech and incitement to violence in the region and across Syria more broadly.

The Syrian Feminist Lobby calls on international organizations to take urgent action and adopt the necessary measures to exert pressure to end these violations and ensure the protection of civilians.

The Syrian Feminist Lobby also calls on the authorities to fulfill their legal obligations by taking immediate and effective measures to apprehend those responsible for these crimes and to hold accountable the perpetrators, as well as anyone who incited, aided, or otherwise contributed to their commission, thereby ensuring that such crimes do not go unpunished.

The Syrian Feminist Lobby expresses its full solidarity with the victims and their families and affirms that achieving justice, ensuring accountability, and prosecuting all those responsible for these crimes are essential prerequisites for protecting civilians and upholding the rule of law.
