The Syrian Feminist Lobby is following with deep concern the details surrounding the disappearance of the young woman, Batoul Suleiman, and her family’s painful appeals for her return.
According to her relatives, Batoul disappeared from the student housing at Tishreen University before later appearing in a video saying that she had “migrated for the sake of God.” Her family, through recorded video statements, appealed for her safe return.
They also expressed doubts about the video in which Batoul stated that she had “migrated for the sake of God,” suggesting that it may have been recorded under pressure.
The Syrian Feminist Lobby calls on the authorities to take urgent action to uncover the fate of the young woman, ensure her safety, and hold accountable any individuals involved in her disappearance.
The authorities bear responsibility for her safety and for ensuring her safe return to her home.
The authorities must also take immediate and serious steps to reveal the fate of all abducted women, hold accountable those involved in kidnapping operations and in covering them up, stop denying and trivializing this dangerous issue, and treat it with the seriousness it deserves.
