The Syrian Feminist Lobby is an independent, non-partisan political lobby opposed to all forms of tyranny, with a firm belief in democracy, pluralism, equal citizenship, gender equality, human rights, social justice and peaceful activism as a means of change. It lobbies for the recognition of women’s rights and equal participation, without any gender-based discrimination, in decision making and political action at all levels, as well as in public and private life. Its members believe that democracy cannot be achieved if women’s rights are not respected and upheld as universal human rights and if the principles of gender equality are not observed in public and private life.
Syria is a democratic, civil, secular and pluralistic State committed to universal human rights and to the human rights of women. It seeks to build a society that ensures equal citizenship and respects the principles of social justice, gender equality and women’s unhindered participation in all the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of life, as well as in decision making and in shaping their country’s future on the basis of citizenship and the International Bill of Human Rights.
The Lobby’s objective is to use all the tools at its disposal to achieve gender equality and women’s active and equal participation in public and political action and in decision-making positions at all levels in the political, economic, social, cultural and media domains. It also lobbies for the prioritization of women’s rights and gender equality in national agendas for the future of Syria and for ensuring women’s rights in the Constitution and in the laws of national public institutions during the peace-building process. The Lobby also raises awareness on the issues of women’s rights, feminism and empowerment.
