Statement from the Syrian Feminist Lobby

The Syrian Feminist Lobby follows with deep sorrow and grave concern the recent dangerous escalation of tensions and armed clashes in the cities of Jaramana, Sweida, and Sahnaya, as well as the assault on Druze students in the university dormitories in Homs. These incidents come in the context of a systematic sectarian incitement campaign targeting members of the Druze community, accompanied by horrific human rights violations affecting innocent civilians.

Through credible reports and testimonies, we have documented armed violence and incitement targeting Druze civilians, and the spread of hate speech that threatens the fabric of Syrian society, amid a clear failure by state institutions to deter extremists and prevent the escalation of violence and hate.

We strongly condemn all forms of sectarian incitement and identity-based polarization that deepen the divides among citizens of the same nation. We also denounce the violations committed against civilians in Jaramana, Sweida, and Sahnaya, including deaths and injuries resulting from unrestrained security operations and the lack of accountability.

We categorically reject the blatant Israeli intervention through airstrikes on Syrian territory under the pretext of “protecting the Druze.” Such intervention only serves foreign agendas that further destabilize the country, undermine its sovereignty, and exploit Syrian suffering for their own interests.

The continuation of these violations and divisions, and the failure to curb incitement and takfiri rhetoric, poses an existential threat to what remains of the shared social fabric. It risks dragging the country into a devastating civil conflict at a time when Syrians most need a genuine path toward justice, reconciliation, and dialogue based on equal citizenship.

We demand an immediate end to all acts of violence and incitement, and the formation of a neutral and independent investigative committee to hold accountable those responsible for violations, regardless of their affiliations. We affirm that any real solution begins with ending discrimination and persecution, achieving transitional justice, engaging in national dialogue, and committing to a state based on the rule of law and equal citizenship.

Mercy and justice for the victims.

No to discrimination, no to sectarianism, yes to justice and peace.
