The Syrian Feminist Lobby is following with deep concern the news, images, and videos emerging from the Syrian coast, The event started when armed groups —remnants of the former regime—have targeted more around two hundred security personnel and around 250 civilians, according to the most recent statement by the Syrian Network for Human Rights. In response, security forces launched operations against these groups; however, these operations were accompanied by severe human rights violations and war crimes committed by both the security forces and affiliated militias. These acts led to the killing of over 887 innocent civilians, including women and children and elderly individuals, during sweep operations in various areas of the coastal region.
These grave violations of human rights included summary executions and indiscriminate killings that targeted civilians, among them women and children.
While we strongly condemn the violations committed against civilians and demand their immediate cessation, as well as the formation of an impartial investigative committee and the prosecution of those responsible, we also condemn the crimes committed by elements of the former regime against security forces.
The continuation of such violations, sectarian alignments, hate speech, and sectarian incitement will drag the country into a devastating civil war. It will further contribute to the disintegration of Syrian society, which is in urgent need of healing, peace, and stability.
There can be no real security and peace in Syria without a genuine transitional justice process, a meaningful national dialogue among all Syrians, and the formation of a pluralistic government that fulfills the aspirations of Syrians of all backgrounds and includes qualified and experienced women and men.
Mercy and justice for the victims.
The number of statement updated based on SNHR recent report.
