The Syrian Feminist Lobby held three online workshops as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. These workshops, held between November and December, discussed the necessity of developing a civil family law and a law against domestic violence. They highlighted the negative impacts of the current discriminatory Syrian Personal Status Law and the absence of a law against domestic violence.
The workshops were attended by various feminist organizations, civil society groups inside and outside Syria, and human rights activists. The workshops resulted in formulating a principles document that constitutes the foundation for the envisioned civil family law that opposes violence, a dream shared by Syrian women and men.
The document will be published soon, coinciding with the launch of an advocacy campaign aimed at sparking a discussion within Syrian society about the importance of such a law and pushing for its realization.
